Jerry Durant's Holy Boss was bet in half from his morning line of 3-1 and took pressure inside and out for the opening half-mile, but blew the doors off his rivals from there to score by 10 1/4 lengths en route to the Rising Star designation. Hailing from a solid Adena Springs family including MGSW Mark One and GSW Rookie Sensation, the $135,000 KEESEP yearling was not among his trainer's string at Saratoga this summer, but tore up the local main track in his morning trials, including a best-of-33 five-eighths in 1:00 1/5 Aug. 26. Drawn one from the outside for the debut, the athletic chestnut jumped alertly and was soon at the head of affairs, but had some company to his inside in the form of Roma Road (Bellamy Road) and was forced into a pressured opening quarter in :22.08. That rival dropped away on the turn, but Holy Boss soon had Tanner's Popsicle (Wildcat Heir) as a menacing presence to his outside, and those two were on even terms as they reached the head of the stretch. But just as soon, Holy Boss kicked it into another gear for Ricardo Santana Jr. and covered his final two furlongs in a very strong :23.66 to score by daylight. Sourcesandmethods (Indian Charlie), the 8-5 second choice, ran on to be second from Roma Road (Bellamy Road). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $22,200.
