Owner/breeder Donald Dizney decided to hold on to the very promising J S Bach after the bidding stalled at $85,000 at the 2013 KEESEP yearling sale. A debut second with a very handsome 92 Beyer Speed Figure behind well-meant firster R Limo Joe (Kantharos) in a key 5 1/2-furlong heat against Florida-breds first out here Dec. 19, J S Bach posted a pair of works since, including a five-furlong move in 1:01 4/5 (9/15) at Todd Pletcher's Palm Beach Downs base Jan. 11. He was backed as the 4-5 chalk while making his two-turn debut against open company here. Taking full advantage of his inside draw from post three, the bay broke like a shot and faced only mild pressure from 99-1 outsider Ocean Telegraph (Street Cry {Ire}) through early fractions of :23.86 and :47.90. J S Bach began to edge clear off the turn for home and dropped the hammer in the stretch to score by 8 1/2 lengths. Stablemate Old Mountain Lane (War Front) was second; Ocean Telegraph reported home fifth. Dizney also campaigned the winner's second dam Omi, heroine of the GIII Arlington Matron H. and runner-up in the GIII Falls City H. She was acquired by Dizney's Doble Diamond Farm for $75,000 as a FTSAUG yearling in 1994. J S Bach's unraced dam Ten Carat Lady wasn't covered after producing a colt by High Cotton in 2013. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $33,960.
