Handed a wide draw around this notoriously tricky and undulating circuit, Jukebox Jury's first start proved a baptism of fire but the grey from a stable not renowned for debut winners defied all the odds. Trapped wide throughout the early stages, the Eu270,000 DEAAUG yearling had no choice but to race in rear and had handed the leader Full Toss (GB) (Nayef) around five lengths at the top of the straight. Asked to quicken by Johnny Murtagh, the 14-1 shot responded with a sustained burst of acceleration down the centre of the track to cut the deficit and inhale that rival in the final strides for a neck success. “We've always liked him, but we have taken our time and Johnny suggested another educational run next time,” trainer Mark Johnston commented. The victor is a half to Pierrot Solaire (Fr) (Dancing Spree), SW-Ity, $258,320; The Mask (Fr) (Saint Estephe {Fr}), SW & MGSP-Fr, GSP-Eng, $131,813; and Belle Allure (Ire) (Numerous), GSW-Fr.
