Lucy Goosey, favored at 9-5 in this career bow from a 5-1 morning line, ran to the money and delivered by 9 1/4 lengths beneath the Twin Spires en route to ‘TDN Rising Stardom’ Saturday. Away well, the grey settled in a tracking fifth well off the fence behind an opening quarter in :22.72. Traveling ominously well, she tugged her way into third through a :46.33 half mile, before drawing even with the front runner, as Excessivespending (Shackleford) mirrored her to her inside in upper stretch. Lucy Goosey seized command a few jumps later, before dropping the hammer on her overmatched rivals. She stormed home to win by daylight—despite traveling on her wrong lead—over Excessivespending. The first foal from her dam, Lucy Goosey has a yearling half-brother by Artie Schiller and a weanling half-brother by Bodemeister. Goose Martini, a daughter of GII Fair Grounds Oaks heroine Real Cozzy, who also ran second in the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Mother Goose S. and GI Acorn S., was covered by Munnings this spring.
