Maclean's Music was bet down to 7-5 in his first start, and more than lived up to his odds. A Stonestreet Stables homebred, he was bought back for $900,000 as a KEESEP yearling, a move that might have raised eyebrows at the time, but proved prescient here. The bay had signalled his ability during his morning trials, including a bullet six furlongs in 1:10 flat out of the gate Feb. 28. Sent right to the front yesterday, he sped through splits of :21.24 and :43.48 and, with ears pinned, opened up under a hand ride to hit the line 7 1/4 lengths to the good. Forest Music, a $325,000 FTFFEB purchase by Michael Gill in 2003, raced most of her career for that owner, but was acquired privately by Stonestreet after running third in the GII Genuine Risk H. at Belmont in May of 2005. She captured the 2005 GII Honorable Miss H. at Saratoga in her first start in Jess Jackson's colors, and was retired after finishing off the board in her next two outings. Maclean's Music is her first foal. The grey mare has a 2-year-old colt by Giant's Causeway and a yearling colt by Street Cry (Ire). She was barren to Medaglia d'Oro last spring. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $32,400.
