Materiality, a $260,000 KEESEP yearling who developed into a $400,000 EASMAY juvenile after breezing a panel in :10 2/5, earned a decisive 4 1/2-length victory on debut here going six panels in the slop Jan. 11, and was made the second choice in this extension to nine furlongs. Bumped into and carried out by favored stablemate Stanford (Malibu Moon) causing a chain reaction rounding the first turn, the dark bay was quickly straightened out by pilot John Velazquez and pressed Stanford from second through early splits of :23.77 and :47.99. Materiality quickly disposed of his stablemate in mid-stretch and cruised clear to score by daylight. Stanford was disqualified from second and placed last for the incident in the first turn. Tradesman was promoted from third to second. Materiality is a half to My Miss Sophia (Unbridled's Song), winner of last year's GII Gazelle S. and second to champion Untapable (Tapit) in the GI Kentucky Oaks. The winner also traces his lineage back to GI Travers S. winner Afleet Express (Afleet Alex), and MGSW & GISP Eye of the Tiger (American Chance). Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $60,828.
