Mawthooq

November 26, 2014 - Aqueduct, Race 3, Msw, USD $60,000, 1M

1st Dam: Ready's Gal
2st Dam: Exquisite Mistress
2st Dam: El Hamo

Owner: Shadwell Stable
Breeder: Courtlandt Farm (KY)
Trainer: Kiaran McLaughlin

Mawthooq looked to have this field of maidens over a barrel on the strength of a troubled and distant runner-up effort to next-out romper Ready for Rye (City Zip), who validated a runner-up effort behind ‘TDN Rising Star’ and subsequent GISW and GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile second Carpe Diem (Giant’s Causeway) over similarly sloppy conditions at Belmont Park Oct. 11. Mawthooq opened at 1-9, was off at 2-5 and made no mistake. Away alertly, the $850,000 Keeneland September graduate was a touch headstrong early on beneath Cornelio Velasquez before settling better through the middle furlongs. Wild Dynaformer (Dynaformer), gave chase throughout, but the Shadwell runner just galloped away from him in the stretch under little encouragement, scoring by 10 1/2 lengths. The winner, who raced off Lasix, was bred by Don Adam’s Courtlandt Farms from Ready’s Gal, a four-time graded-stakes winner on the turf who was acquired by Adam for $750,000 at Fasig-Tipton November in 2006. Courtlandt Farms retained and campaigned the mare’s first foal, Machen (Distorted Humor), GSW, $216,530, to three wins from five starts, including the 2011 GIII Derby Trial S. Ready’s Gal produced a filly by Distorted Humor this past winter. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $51,000.
