John Liviakis homebred Micks Miracle was working up a storm at Santa Anita in the a.m.–including a six-furlong bullet in 1:11 1/5 (1/22) Dec. 7 and a sharp five-furlong move in :59 1/5 Dec. 20 (8/92)–and was backed accordingly as the 9-5 chalk. Away in good order from post six, the chestnut secured a perfect position to race on the outside in third through an opening quarter in :21.76. He made an impressive sweeping move to gain command just off the far turn, leveled off nicely when sat down for the drive by Joe Talamo and was geared down late to win by 5 1/4 good-looking lengths. Wabel (Curlin), a solid second behind The Gomper (Sky Mesa) after leading in the stretch in his Los Al debut Dec. 5, stayed on for second after setting a pressured pace. It was another 3 1/4 lengths back to Ideal (Super Saver) in third. Micks Miracle is the first and only foal from Bubbley Blonde, who won three of nine career starts. She was claimed by Liviakis for $12,500 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting back in October 2009. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $33,600.
