Pamplemousse, who led a four-strong contingent from the in-form Andre Fabre stable, was hammered down to 6-5 favouritism at the tills and obliged her supporters with an imperious debut performance. Slick from the gates to seize immediate control, she held sway throughout and powered clear in second gear, under a motionless Pierre-Charles Boudot, inside the final quarter mile to outclass Poppets’s Promise (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) by an unextended 4 1/2 lengths. Pamplemousse is the sixth winner, from six foals to race, out of the untried Acatama (Efisio {GB}) and her siblings are headed by 2015 G1 Prix Jean Romanet and G1 Premio Lydia Tesio heroine Odeliz (Ire) (Falco), the British and Italian highweight who also ran second in the GI E. P. Taylor S. in 2014. Acatama, who has also produced the 2-year-old colt Nation’s History (Fr) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) and a yearling colt by Exceed and Excel (Aus), is herself kin to four black-type performers headed by GI Del Mar Oaks and GI John C Mabee H. victress Amorama (Fr) (Sri Pekan). The winner’s fourth dam is G1 Prix Ganay-winning US champion and dual French champion Trillion (Hail to Reason), who produced MG1SW superstar distaffer Triptych (Riverman). Trillion is out of Margarethen (Tulyar {Ire}), whose dynasty is an extensive who’s who of turfdom and, to name but a few, also includes Treve (Fr), Moonlight Cloud (GB), Generous (Ire) and Imagine (Ire).
