Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella told TDN that he still had “a lot of high hopes†for Paradise Woods (Union Rags) following her debut second behind ‘TDN Rising Star’ Delitefull Lady (Dialed In) as the 6-5 chalk after setting a hot pace at Santa Anita Jan. 26. You can certainly see why now. Favored at 4-5 in her comebacker on the GI Big ‘Cap undercard, Paradise Woods showed a new dimension this time and settled nicely while racing in fifth while under a snug hold through an opening quarter in :21.86. She revved up while at least four wide off the turn for home and blew them away once sat down for the drive to score by 4 1/4 eye-catching lengths. True Testament (Hansen) was second. The winner’s unraced dam Wild Forest (Forest Wildcat), an $85,000 purchase by Damian and Braxton Lynch’s Royal Oak Farm at the 2015 KEEJAN sale, has also produced the stakes winner Forest Chatter (Dixie Chatter) and a Blame filly in 2016. She was bred back to Palace Malice. Paradise Woods’ second dam is a half-sister to the late top sprinter Mr. Greeley and this is also the extended female family of GI Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.
