Peter Martins carried a considerable reputation, and the starting price of 2-1 reflected that. Breaking smartly, the $145,000 KEESEP yearling stalked the early leader Colorado Gold (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) before being eased off the rail and out of that rival's slipstream at the quarter pole. Soon in command, he lengthened clear up the rising ground to record an authoritative five-length success. “I think he has talent and he's a horse I've liked for a long while,” trainer Jeremy Noseda commented. “I still think he's a fair way away from where he can be in the end, but that was a nice introduction. He's a good stamp of a horse and has lots of scope–he's naturally strong and is a lovely athlete who has done things very naturally from the start. He was a little bit nervous at the beginning, but that is maybe a trait of Johannesburgs, so I minded him a little bit in his preparation and he's done this well. I believe he can go a long way and we had said if we were happy tonight we might think about the G3 Acomb S. [at York Aug. 17]. We'll get him home and see how he is, but it might be that we look for another novice race and if that goes well think about the G2 Champagne S. [at Doncaster Sept. 11].” Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £6,476.
