Power Jam, bet as if he couldn't lose, never looked like getting beaten in his racetrack debut Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita, scoring by 4 1/4 lengths in fast time. Armed with four consecutive bullets–three at Los Alamitos and the most recent over this strip Feb. 8 (:58 4/5, 1/70), Power Jam was outsprinted early on by Bold Bid (Pulpit) and took a sit right off that one's flank through an opening quarter mile in :21.77. Given his head three furlongs from home, Power Jam cornered just a bit wide into the lane, but was pushed out hands and heels to easily account for Wolf Man Rocket (Mineshaft), a $550,000 OBS April graduate, at odds of 2-5. Trainer Bob Baffert signed for the winner's dam, herself a granddaughter of champion Eliza (Mt. Livermore), for $200,000 as a Keeneland September yearling in 2009. Kaleem Shah also campaigned Power Jam's sire to victories in the GII West Virginia Derby and GIII Iowa Derby in 2010. Musical Rhythm is the dam of Concord Point fillies of 2013 and 2014.
