Random Walk, well-supported at all points in the wagering, was away as the co-2-1 chalk and went straight to the lead from his rail draw. Doling out splits of :22.46 and :45.52, the bay was unleashed by Jose Ortiz in the lane and spurted clear to don cap and gown by an emphatic 5 3/4 lengths. Battalion Runner (Unbridled’s Song), a $700,000 KEESEP yearling who was somewhat dead on the board for a Todd Pletcher firster, was completely sandwiched at the start, but made a head-turning move along the bend before settling for second, 7 1/2 lengths clear of the third finisher. An $80,000 FTKJUL yearling acquisition, the winner blossomed into a $300,000 OBS March juvenile after a :20 3/5 breeze. His dam is a half to graded stakes-winning juveniles Lunarpal (Successful Appeal) and Astrology (A.P. Indy), and a full to stakes-winning 2-year-old Lunarlady. She produced another Super Saver colt last year, and a Shackleford cold this spring. Conditioner Rick Violette, Jr. is now two-for-two with juvenile firsters this term, having sent out Olive Branch (Speightstown) to a two-length debut success, also for Ralph Evans, here May 18. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $45,000.
