2st Dam: Hymn of the Dawn
2st Dam: Colonial Debut
Owner: Mrs J S Bolger
Breeder: J S Bolger
Trainer: J S Bolger
Off the mark in game fashion on debut in the same seven-furlong Curragh maiden won in recent times by subsequent luminaries Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Roderic O’Connor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Rip Van Winkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Duke of Marmalade (Ire) (Danehill) and Horatio Nelson (Ire) (Danehill), Sanus Per Aquam started as the 11-8 second choice with the main money for Ballydoyle’s Port Douglas (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Granted the ideal lead early by his rabbit Gleine (Ire) (Vocalised), the imposing homebred took command passing the quarter pole and soon had his market rival, a half-brother to the 2009 G1 Deutsches Derby and G1 Rheinland-Pokal hero Wiener Walzer (Ger) (Dynaformer), in serious trouble. Pushed out to draw clear, the bay whose dam is a half to Dawn Approach (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) finished strongly and had 4 3/4 lengths to spare at the line. Afterwards, there was no ambiguity in Jim Bolger’s regard for the winner. “There is no difference between him and the sire,” he explained. “He moves and behaves the same way–he is Teofilo reincarnated. He was just cantering all spring, as he is a big horse and on the backward side and only did three bits of work before his first run and I did nothing with him after The Curragh and this race. The reason I ran him this evening was to get a run into him before the G2 Futurity S. [at The Curragh Aug. 23] and if all goes well, he’ll then go for the G1 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National S. [at The Curragh Sept. 13]and then off to my favorite English racecourse at Newmarket for the [Oct. 10] G1 Dewhurst S. Hopefully, he won’t have any problems like his sire did.” Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $28,275. O-Mrs J. S. Bolger; B/T-Jim Bolger (IRE); J-Kevin Manning. Click for the Racing Post result.
