Sidney's Candy missed by a head in his career opener at Del Mar July 25, but was all alone at the finish in his second appearance. Bet down to 9-10, the Craig homebred tracked the pace in second down the backstretch. He closed ground as they came around the bend, collared Oceanographer (Stormy Atlantic) at the top of the lane and pulled away to graduate by four lengths. “He's such a classy horse,” jockey Joe Talamo said. “Even last time, he ran a winning race–he showed so much. What I really like about him is the way he finishes. We were definitely confident coming into this race.” The final time for the 5 1/2 furlongs was a track record 1:02.71, breaking the old mark by three ticks. Who's Up (Orientate) came on to be second. The Program (Harlan's Holiday), unruly before the race, trailed throughout. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $40,800.
