The wide draw was no problem for ultra-impressive firster Sophie Germain at the Big A Saturday afternoon, as she produced a scintillating performance good for ‘TDN Rising Star’ honors. The gray, a half-sister to My Magic Moment (Forest Wildcat), SW & GSP, $149,813, was given a 7-1 chance and bided her time while racing toward the rear through a hot opening quarter in :23.19 over the soft going. She made a huge middle move while parked four wide to reach contention into a half mile in :49.95. Sophie Germain impressively continued to roll while inhaling the leaders off the far turn, opened daylight in the stretch and stayed on late to graduate by three very promising lengths. Spanish Harlem (More Than Ready) was second. The winner’s second dam is a half to MGSW/MGISP Eltish (Cox’s Ridge) and GSW Forest Gazelle (Green Forest), while her third dam is a full to GISW Contredance.
