Glen Hill Farm homebred Summering (War Front) got off to a very auspicious start to her career with a dominant front-running tally in this turfy two-turn test. Backed down to 2-1 favoritism after shipping westward from Fair Hill in July, the bay broke alertly and doled out swift splits of :22.26 and :46.30. Still traveling well within herself as they straightened, she scampered clear of them with ease despite her earlier exertions and some greenness to graduate by five lengths in 1:35.53. Colonial Creed (Jimmy Creed) was second. The winner is a daughter of MGSW/GISP Wishing Gate (Indian Charlie), a second-out graduate over this same course and distance almost six years ago. Wishing Gate died after producing her second foal, a full-brother to Summering named Food and Wine, last year. Summering’s second dam was also a productive carrier of the Glen Hill orange and black, having secured a pair of Grade III wins on the Churchill turf. Third dam Qualitative (Woodman) was a $200,000 Keeneland July yearling in 1996 by the late Leonard Lavin’s storied operation.
