Fager Stable’s Surging Tide (Medaglia d’Oro) was unhurried early and settled off the pace behind fractions of :23.36 and :46.77. Still with plenty to do turning for home, the 8-1 shot bumped with Presumptuous (Midnight Lute) as she was winding up for her stretch rally, but bound passed that rival and surged to the lead before striding clear to win by an effortless 6 1/2 lengths. Presumptuous closed for second and the stewards reviewed the incident between the top two finishers at the top of the lane, but made no change to the order of finish.  Surging Tide is a half-sister to Alien Giant (Giant’s Causeway), second in the 2015 Landaluce S. Her dam Alienation, second in the 2010 GI Spinaway S. and third in the 2011 GI Prioress S., produced a filly by Uncle Mo in 2017 and a filly by Air Force Blue this year. The mare is a half-sister to GI Woodward S. runner-up Rally Cry (Uncle Mo) and from the family of Grade I winners Judge Angelucci, War and Peace. She sold, in foal to Distorted Humor, for $350,000 at the 2015 Keeneland November sale.
