Suzy Malibu showed back-to-back bullet works leading up to this, and while she didn't exhibit much speed early here, she showed plenty of late kick. The
6-1 chance was a step or two slow from the gate, and took up a spot in second-to-last early while saving ground behind a solid pace. Shuffled back to last midway on the home bend, the bay was not discouraged, and tipped out some five or six wide turning for home. Showing off in impressive stride, Suzy Malibu inhaled a solid-looking field in the blink of an eye and drew off to win as much the best. Alexis Tangier (Tiznow), the daughter of MGSW Cambiocorsa (Avenue of Flags), was 5 1/4 lengths back in second. Baffert firster Enchanted Fortune (Indian Charlie) checked in third after an awkward start. The winner, who RNA'd for $47,000 at the 2012 Keeneland September sale and is a half to Diamond Head (Jpn), SP-Jpn, $283,446, is a granddaughter of MGISW Strategic Manuever (Cryptoclearance), responsible for GII La Canada S. winner Cat Fighter (Storm Cat), Irish Group 3 winner and sire Ishiguru (Danzig) and the dam of Shumoos (Distorted Humor), an English GSW who finished second from far back in the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint and who was third in last March's GIII Las Flores S. over this strip. The O'Neill barn sent out another “TDN Rising Star” in Twenty Percent (Dixie Union) here Mar. 22. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $33,600.
