Sweeping Paddy, a solid third on debut sprinting at Ellis Park Aug. 13, crushed her competition Saturday to join her full-brother Cherry Wine, MGISP, $563,498, on the list of “TDN Rising Starsâ€. Pressing from a close second through an opening half-mile in :48.06, the 9-5 chalk took control approaching the far turn and it was all over from there. The bay effortlessly cruised clear in the lane under a hand ride from Robby Albarado, leaving her competition in her dust as she hit the line 12 1/4 lengths clear of Expect a Kitten (Kitten’s Joy). Winning conditioner Dale Romans trained Sweeping Paddy’s GISW sire Paddy O’Prado, as well as her dam C. S. Royce, who he purchased for $180,000 as a yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September sale. He also trains her “TDN Rising Starâ€Â full-brother Cherry Wine, who earned his Rising Star tag after an ultra-impressive allowance victory on the dirt at Gulfstream this winter. The gray, who is the first foal out of C. S. Royce, was third to stablemate Brody’s Cause (Giant’s Causeway) in the GI Toyota Blue Grass S. and second behind Exaggerator (Curlin) in the GI Preakness S. C. S. Royce produced a Take Charge Indy filly in 2015 and foaled a colt by Point of Entry Apr. 27. She was bred back to Giant’s Causeway. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $81,800.
