Sweet Corine, whose half-brother Verrazano was tabbed aTDN Rising Starat this track just over two years ago and whose half-sister La Madrina (Tapit) earned that same distinction in Hallandale last March, was an even fifth going 6 1/2 furlongs at Aqueduct in her Nov. 30 debut. She prepped for this second outing with a best-of-nine four-furlong drill in :49 at Payson Park Jan. 12. Off at 9-2, the bay filly was bumped by a rival traveling into the first turn and perched four off the rail down the backstretch. Angled toward the pine, the homebred inched closer after a half in :48.22 and had dead aim on the leading trio turning for home. Cut loose after three-quarters in 1:13.07, Sweet Corine made a bold move five wide into the lane and seized command before striding clear to win by 4 1/2 lengths. Miss Pink Diva (Dunkirk) was second. Sweet Corine is a full-sister to El Padrino (GSW, $326,770); and a half to Verrazano (More Than Ready, MGISW-US & MG1SP-Eng, $1,877,983). Her second dam is Grade I winner Chic Shirine and her third dam, Too Chic, is the dam of champion Queena (Mr. Prospector). Breeder Emory Hamilton purchased Too Chic for $100,000 as a Fasig-Tipton yearling in 1980. Enchanted Rock produced a colt by Pulpit in 2013 and a colt by More Than Ready in 2014. She was bred back to Tapit last spring. Her Pulpit colt sold for $200,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale
