Tale of S’Avall tipped his hand a bit with a best-of-30 half-mile in :47 2/5 here Aug. 19 and was bet down to 7-2 from his 10-1 morning-line quote. Away well from the outside post in this 10-horse affair, the dark bay kept close tabs on the leaders from a wide fifth through quick early splits of :22.61 and :45.68. Still trapped out deep turning for home, the homebred powered past the leaders in the stretch and kept on rolling clear to register a two-length victory. River Dell (Arch), a $580,000 OBSMAR purchase, closed strongly to be second. The winner’s second dam is GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner and millionaire Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold). His very deep female family also includes MGISWs Point of Entry (Dynaformer) and Pine Island (Arch); and MGSWs Boca Grande (A.P. Indy) and Country Hideaway (Seeking the Gold). Charles Fipke purchased Tale of S’Avall’s dam for $550,000 at the 2010 Keeneland November sale in foal to Broken Vow. His yearling full brother brought $500,000 from Chris Alexander at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale earlier this month. S’ Avall produced a full sister to the winner this year and was bred back to Tale of Ekati. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $55,800.
