TED NOFFEY (c, 2, Into Mischief-Streak of Luck, by Old Fashioned) may've started as a typo, but the performance was no joke as the grey gamely kicked home to 'TDN Rising Star' honors at Saratoga.
The son of the perennial leading sire entered into this debut with a long worktab at the venue with the most recent move having come July 21 when he breezed four panels in :49.55 (25/44) in company with fellow Spendthrift co-owned Tapit's Legacy (Tapit)-who also won at first asking last week by five lengths.
Sent off here at 7-2 odds, Ted Noffey had to be urged from midpack to keep up with the leading group and chased those runners from the four path on the turn behind :22.44 and :46.35 splits. Making his winning move passing the five-sixteenths, he assumed command in upper stretch under left-hand urging after wearing down pacesetter Tagermeen (Into Mischief) and steadily inched away to win by 1 1/2 lengths as Criteria (Yaupon) came on behind him to claim second. The final time of 1:17.56 ended up being a faster final clocking than what 'Rising Star' Ewing (Knicks Go) produced a couple races later en route to winning the GII Saratoga Special Stakes.
Ted Noffey is the second winner from as many to the races for Streak of Luck, herself multiple graded-placed in California during her time on the track. The mare has a yearling filly by Munnings and a 2025 full-brother to the winner to her credit. She went to Not This Time for 2026. This is the immediate female family of SW Moment's Pleasure (Clubhouse Ride), who ran third in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint Stakes this year at Santa Anita, and was last seen just missing the board Mar. 16 at that venue in the Irish O'Brien Stakes.
