Let go at a generous mutuel given the presence of big-figure maiden winner Sailing Home and GIII Arlington-Washington Futurity hero and TDN Rising Star Wellabled (Shackleford), M M G Stables’ Undulated (Curlin) lagged well behind a suicidal pace set by Katalox (Old Forester) and Wellabled, took his cue from jockey Alan Garcia swinging off the final corner and overwhelmed Uncle B (Zensational) in the final half-furlong to score impressively and become a TDN Rising Star. Uncle B held for second ahead of Sailing Home, who lacked the same turn of foot as the winner and settled for third money. “They were going very quick. My horse was relaxed and comfortable,†said Garcia. “When I asked him to run, he picked up the bridle. I knew they were going to stop and my horse was going to make a great kick and he did.†A $110,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, Undulated breezed a quarter-mile in :21 flat over the SafeTrack at OBS March and was hammered down to this owner for $625,000. The chestnut came with a flying finish from far back to graduate by a half-length in a 5 1/2-furlong test over the Laurel turf course Aug. 7, but laid closer to the pace in the Sept. 10 Laurel Futurity over that course and distance last time and led late only to be nabbed on the wire by Caribou Club (City Zip). He was an intended runner in the Oct. 29 Awad S. at Belmont Park, but was cast in his stall, resulting in his scratching. The winner’s dam, stakes-placed in Italy, is a half-sister to GSW & MGISP Medici Code (GB) (Medicean {GB}). Polly Alexander produced a full-brother to Undulated in 2015 and that colt was bought backon a bid of $245,000 at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale. The mare was most recently bred to Lookin at Lucky.
