West Point Thoroughbreds’ Untamed Domain (Animal Kingdom) charged to the lead late and surged clear to graduate by 1 1/2 lengths and become the second ‘TDN Rising Star’ of the afternoon at Saratoga Saturday. Sent off at 6-5, the bay colt raced at the back of the field as Lindburgh’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) set the pace through fractions of :24.75 and :50.40. Untamed Domain inched closer along the rail down the backstretch, but was forced to take up sharply while in traffic into the final turn. Tipped out to the center of the course at the top of the lane, he stormed to the lead and completed the 1 1/16 miles over the firm turf in 1:44.21. Another (Soldat) was second and pacesetter Lindburgh’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) was third. Untamed Domain, a $90,000 KEESEP yearling, became the second American winner for GI Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}). The stallion has six Australian winners, including ‘TDN Rising Star’ Earth Angel (Aus). Untamed Domain, out of stakes winner and graded stakes placed Ciao, overcame a troubled trip to be a closing fourth while sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over the Laurel turf in his July 2 debut. Ciao was bred to Declaration of War in 2015 and 2016, with no reported foals. She was bred to Air Force Blue this year. The winner’s third dam is French Group 1 winner Smuggly (Caro {Ire}).
