Darley homebred Wedding Toast was pounded down into what seemed to be underlaid odds of 3-5 in the Wednesday opener at Belmont. After all, she was facing a legitimate rival in the form of TDN Rising Star Cue the Moon (Malibu Moon), finally dipping her toe into allowance company after some respectable, if ultimately fruitless, endeavors in Grade I company. Off a half-step slowly while breaking from the inside in this one-mile test, Wedding Toast was in front by the time they hooked up with the track proper and set a good pace from 9-5 Cue the Moon, who raced on a long rein from jockey Luis Saez. The latter tried to make a race of it and loomed upsides of Wedding Toast as they rounded the turn, but the race was over at the quarter pole, as the chalk kicked into another gear and streaked home while never really asked to take it by 14 1/4 lengths. Galloping Giraffe (Tapit) outstayed Cue the Moon for second. Wedding Toast was produced by an unraced half-sister to five-time Grade I winner Congaree (Arazi) and to SW & GISP Sangaree (Awesome Again). Lifetime Record: 3-2-1-0, $111,200.
