Trainer Karl Burke unveiled subsequent G3 Albany, G2 Duchess Of Cambridge and G1 Prix Morny heroine Venetian Sun (Starman) in last term's British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at Carlisle and he unleashed another Royal Ascot contender in this year's renewal.

James Doyle made the long journey north to partner Wathnan Racing's 300,000gns Craven Breeze-Up graduate Wild Blossom (Mehmas) at the Cumbrian venue and she returned with a TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard, rosette after routing her three rivals by 10 lengths and more in the five-furlong contest, becoming the sixth Rising Star for her sire.

“Wathnan are big supporters of the breeze-up sales and that's our first runner of the year so it was great to see her go and do that,” said Richard Brown. “The most pleasing thing is the filly in second [Crownbreaker] had run a really nice race at Newmarket, so I'd say it was a decent race. It looked it on paper beforehand, it was an expensive field and it was a valuable maiden, so there's a huge amount of positives to take out it. I thought her attitude was fantastic and it couldn't be more exciting. The ground's on the soft side and it is a stiff five [furlongs] so you'd think she's ticked a lot of boxes.”

Burke added, “It's definitely going to be [Royal] Ascot and she doesn't need to run again [beforehand]. It'll be straight to Ascot and I'd imagine that it will be the [G2] Queen Mary.”

The 15-8 second choice broke in third and moved forward to press the leader in a close-up second after the early strides. Easing to the front passing the quarter-mile marker, she was shaken up approaching the final furlong and ridden clear in the latter stages to easily overpower Crownbreaker (Minzaal) by an ever-widening margin.

Wild Blossom is the second of three foals and first scorer out of half-sister to G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes-winning freshman sire Bayside Boy (New Bay), dual G2 Huxley Stakes victor Forest Ranger (Lawman) and Listed Fleur de Lys Fillies' Stakes third Home Cummins (Rip Van Winkle).

The winner is kin to a weanling colt by Good Guess.
