Trying a two-turn route for the first time in his young career, Wisecracker overcame a wide passage to become a ‘TDN Rising Star'. Trapped out five or six deep into the first turn Saturday, the homebred was near the back of the pack turning up the backstretch while dropping in for some cover behind chief market rival Japan (Medaglia d'Oro). Asked for some mid-race acceleration by Jose Lezcano, the homebred whipped around the field and vied for the lead three abreast nearing the second turn, while Japan exchanged bumps with a rival and momentarily came off the bridle nearing the entrance to that bend. The full-brother to MGSW & MGISP Al Khali jumped back into the bit and tried to make a race of it late, but Wisecracker proved too strong in the finish, scoring by 2 1/2 lengths as the 4-5 chalk. A debut second to fellow ‘TDN Rising Star' Khozan (Distorted Humor) in a seven-furlong maiden at Gulfstream Jan. 24, Wisecracker was the 1-2 chalk trying a mile for the first time Mar. 7, but was left in the wake of another ‘TDN Rising Star' performance from Unbridled Juan (Unbridled's Song). Wisecracker's dam, a stakes winner and Grade III-placed at the races, hails from the good Stonerside family of GSW Miss Coronado (Coronado's Quest), from the same Forty Niner-sire line; and MGSW & MG1/ISP Karen's Caper (Kingmambo). Lifetime Record: 3-1-2-0, $50,000.
