Treadway Racing Stable, which unleashed Sweet Reason (Street Sense) to win last year's GI Spinaway S., debuted another impressive juvenile filly Sunday at Belmont in Wonder Gal. The 4-5 favorite while facing five rivals, the dark bay filly trailed the field into the turn, but made a dramatic move along the rail to reach contention into the stretch. Tipped out three wide, she exploded clear down the lane for a supremely easy debut. “There haven't been many maiden races for New York-bred fillies,” explained winning trainer Leah Gyarmati. “We hope she lives up to our expectations. She's young still. She's big, but she's still young. You have to keep that in mind. There are bound to be some bumps along the way.” Winning rider Taylor Rice added, “I had been on her a few times in the morning, so I was hoping an effort like this was coming, but you never really know. She's a big mare, so I just wanted to let her break and settle. I think she'll definitely be better going longer.” Wonder Gal worked in :10 1/5 before selling for $210,000 at this year's OBS March sale. Her dam Passe is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Social Queen (Dynaformer). Passe RNA'd for $29,000 while carrying Wonder Gal, her first live foal, at the 2011 Keeneland November sale. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $75,000.
