Nat Rea's Regis Farm made a big splash on the sales scene last fall and this spring, and one of his dearest purchases at the juvenile sales–this $700,000 FTFFEB grad–gave the Canadian-based operation its very first winner. Off as a big 19-1 outsider for a barn that hits with a modest 9% of its firsters and running without Lasix, Zinzay raced along wide just off the 4-5 choice Hillhouse High (Exchange Rate), who set fractions of :23.17, :46.97 and 1:11.32. Pushed along to confront the favorite nearing the quarter pole, she gamely engaged that one soon after and, after putting a nose in front at the furlong grounds, asserted to win by a neck on the line. The $1.6 million KEENOV weanling Crown Queen (Smart Strike), the half-sister to champion Royal Delta (Empire Maker), ran on well to be third. Zinzay is the second foal from the unraced 10-year-old Music Room, a half-sister to a pair of brilliant Grade I-winning fillies in Musical Chimes (In Excess {Ire}) and Music Note (A.P. Indy). Her third dam is champion It's In the Air. Hartley/DeRenzo purchased Zinzay for $250,000 at Keeneland September and resold her to Regis at Fasig's Florida Sale, where she was the sale's fourth-highest-priced baby after working an eighth in :10 2/5. Dam Music Room's first foal is the unraced 3-year-old filly Distorted Music (Distorted Humor). Music Room's 2012 foal died. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $51,000.
