Rules’ Possible For Curragh Cup
Moyglare Stud’s Forgotten Rules (Ire) (Nayef), who lost his unbeaten record when third in last week’s G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, could make a quick return to the races in Sunday’s G3 Curragh Cup. Trainer Dermot Weld, who noted the 5-year-old gelding “bounced out of Ascot well,” said some rain in the lead-up would be necessary for his charge to line up on the weekend.
“We decided to leave him in and we’ll make a decision on his participation later in the week,” said Weld. “As ever, he’ll need sufficient rain for us to contemplate running. He’s bounced out of Ascot well.”
Forgotten Rules won last year’s G2 British Champions Long Distance Cup in just his third start and extended his record in Navan’s G3 Vintage Crop S. on seasonal debut May 17, but was beaten 1 1/2 lengths behind Trip To Paris (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) on good-to-firm ground at Royal Ascot.
