Rupee Looks to Regain Winning Ways
RUPEE LOOKS TO REGAIN WINNING WAYS
Australia’s sprinting sensation and the world’s current highest-rated horse in that category, Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}), had a six-race win streak snapped when second, beaten a short head by Angelic Light (Aus) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), in the G2 McEwen S. here on seasonal debut Sept. 6, but that surprise turnover has apparently done little to dim the triple Group 1 winner’s reputation, with just four showing up to oppose him in today’s G1 Moir S. under the lights at Moonee Valley. While short on quantity, the quartet assembled to oppose Lankan Rupee is of the highest quality, and they will certainly ensure the 5-year-old gelding does not have an easy time of things. Angelic Light, second in last year’s G1 Robert Sangster Classic, proved that she is only getting better with her McEwen score, and enjoys a five-pound weight break here. The veteran 7-year-old Buffering (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}) stepped out of the shadow of Black Caviar (Aus) to record three straight Group 1 victories last spring, and while he failed to find the winner’s circle last season, he checked in third in three straight Group 1s and should never be discounted.
