Rupee Recovering From Bone Bruising

Australian champion sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}), sent to the spelling paddock after finishing an uncharacteristically dull ninth of 10 in the G1 TJ Smith S. Apr. 6, has been diagnosed with bone bruising, trainer Mick Price told Racing and Sports.
“It’s a difficult diagnosis which only comes from scintigraphy,” Price said. “He had a bit of bone bruising on his off-hind fetlock where he had an operation as a foal, apparently, which I didn’t know about at the time. At least we have a reason to give him a nice spell and see how we go.”
Price said the 5-year-old gelding would be spelled six to eight weeks in New South Wales and be prepared for a short spring campaign.
“I don’t think he’ll have many starts in the spring,” Price said. “He’s not a machine and is showing some signs of wear and tear even though he’s been fairly lightly raced.”
