Scat Daddy Filly Relishes Slop in Frizette

Updated: October 3, 2015 at 8:22 pm

LNJ Foxwoods will have a live chance in the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint in the form of TDN Rising Star Super Majesty (Super Saver) and the team now has another runner to look forward to with Nickname (Scat Daddy), who earned her way into the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies with a comprehensive victory in the Frizette.

The strapping dark bay, a $350,000 Keeneland September acquisition, was well regarded for her Aug. 2 debut at Saratoga, but brushed with eventual winner and TDN Rising Star Rachel’s Valentina (Bernardini) after losing her footing at the break and was just touched out of third by next-out winner Big World (Custom for Carlos). Sent off at 95 cents on the dollar for a similar test Sept. 2, she dueled inside on a decent pace and kicked clear late to graduate by 3 1/2 lengths.

Rising Star She’s All Ready (Girolamo) broke alertly from the inside gate and established a clear early advantage through an opening quarter in a sharp :22.78 as Nickname edged her way up into second, just ahead of an eager Width (Blame) in third. Nemoralia (More Than Ready), formerly based in Europe, but possessed of an American dirt pedigree, made some progress up into a joint third at the halfway point, but She’s All Ready was still going well enough up front. Nickname went up to confront She’s All Ready with two furlongs to race and surged past and opened up on her rivals to score handily. Nemoralia finished with interest before galloping out nicely.

“I tried to find my best shot, do the best thing for the horse and find the best way to get there,” commented winning jockey Javier Castellano. “I knew they went pretty quick and then picked it up. I didn’t want keep pushing and get caught in the pace. At the same time, I could see those two horses on the outside too [Width and Nemoralia], so I had to move a little bit. She did really well, nice horse.”
