Sea Moon Irish St Leger-Bound

Lloyd Williams’s Sea Moon (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}), who finished second to Order of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G3 Irish St Leger Trial Aug. 23 in his first outing after a stint in Australia, will now aim for the main event, the G1 Irish St Leger Sept. 13, according to trainer John Oxx.

“I was very happy with him as he’d been showing us mixed signals beforehand, but he ran a cracker,” Oxx said. “He was beaten by a very good horse on the day and he’s been fine since, so, all being well, he’ll be ready to run in the Leger. The trial should bring him on a bit and he deserves his place.”

The 7-year-old Sea Moon won the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot in 2012 while under the care of trainer Sir Michael Stoute and at the end of that campaign he relocated Down Under, where he spent two seasons with trainer Robert Hickmott, his finest moment being a win in the G2 Herbert Power S. in October 2013. Sea Moon’s most recent start prior to the Leger Trial was in November 2014.
