Side Glance Possible for Mackinnon
SIDE GLANCE POSSIBLE FOR MACKINNON
Pearl Bloodstock’s Side Glance (GB) (Passing Glance {GB}), who finished fourth–beaten a half-length–behind Adelaide (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in Saturday’s G1 Cox Plate, could aim for a repeat of the G1 Mackinnon S. in five day’s time, according to trainer Andrew Balding. The 7-year-old gelding has not won since that day 12 months ago but has run some credible races, finishing fourth in the G1 Dubai World Cup and running third in this year’s GI United Nations S., GI Arlington Million and GI Caulfield S.
“[The Cox Plate] was a smashing run and he’s a really tough horse,” Balding told At The Races. “It was a wonderful race and a great occasion and wherever Side Glance goes he runs a great race.”
Balding added, “Ryan [Moore] rode a brilliant race on the winner, and if we weren’t to win I wanted him to so that Australia got to see just how good a jockey he really is.”
“We are thinking about the Mackinnon but we’re considering other options at this stage,” he added. “We’ll probably leave it until the last minute–we don’t have to declare until Thursday.”
