Son of Munnings Gets Delaware Stakes Victory

Updated: August 5, 2015 at 6:51 pm

Never Gone South, a 3 3/4-length debut winner at 3-5 when unveiled at Parx June 21, was sent off at the same price while facing winners for the first time here. Ridden along to remain within striking distance in the early going, the bay revved up three deep into the stretch and was already well clear when Morning Fire (Friesan Fire) veered out, causing a chain reaction that saw two horses fall. Never Gone South kept on straight and strong to the wire, while Morning Fire was demoted to last. The winner’s dam is a half to MGISW Peace Rules (Jules), as well as the dam of Grade II-winning juvenile Corfu (Malibu Moon). He becomes the 10th stakes winner for his second-crop sire (by Speightstown).
