Tab At Zanzibar Steps Up To Graduate Second Out At The Spa

Tab at Zanzibar (Candy Ride {Arg}), second behind 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Sea Strike (Midshipman) in his debut at Aqueduct Apr. 25, came back one better Friday to graduate at the Belmont at Saratoga meet for owners Robert LaPenta and Madaket Stables. Drawn inside and forwardly placed in this 6 1/2-furlong spot, the 3-1 second choice was outrun only by longshot Onepac (Cupid) to his inside as that front pair opened up a small gap back to the main field.

Able to spin off the far turn a path off the rail through fractions of :21.60 and :43.95, he easily drove past that rival who gave way willingly on the fence and kept on rolling down the fastest part of the track to graduate with Criteria (Yaupon) giving chase in second. 'Insighted' runners Noble Edition (Into Mischief) and Presidential Power (Constitution) finished fourth and sixth respectively.

This is the first foal to the races for Union Maiden, a half-sister to GISP Borracho (Uncle Mo), who was purchased by Natalma for $250,000 at Keeneland November in 2021. Her Cody's Wish yearling filly brought $550,000 from the same sale last fall and she reported a colt by Flightline this spring.
