War Native, the first foal from French group winner Walkamia, was the impressive winner of a six-furlong maiden at Newmarket on debut Aug. 1 and overcame greenness to justify odds-on backers in this return. Racing keenly as he tracked the steady early pace in third here, he took a tight hold throughout. He was sent in pursuit of Fullback (Ire) (Redback {GB}) off the crown of the home bend and the 2-5 pick kept on strongly, despite drifting left, to reel in that rival 50 yards out and score by a comfortable 1 1/4 lengths. "I think he's learned a bit today, he's still very novicey and we've yet to iron out the kinks he has before we take a step up in class so we'll look for another conditions race before we do any more than that," said trainer Jeremy Noseda. "He was beautifully relaxed going down to the start, but once he gets in competition he gets a little bit too aggressive so we've just got to teach him to settle. A better pace would suit him much better and we thought coming here would teach him to turn a little bit, but it's all part of his education. I've no doubt he's got the talent, but we've got to teach him to race and season him. He's a three-year-old as well and he'll be a better horse next year." War Native, from the extended family of the tough Westerner (GB), is the first foal from the French Group 3 winner Walkamia, herself a full to French Group 2 winner Walk on Mix (Fr). Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, £9,597.
