Sent off at 16-1 in the race won by Russian Rhythm (Kingmambo) in 2002, Discourse was settled behind the early leaders out wide as stable companion Gamilati (GB) (Bernardini) took them along. As that 2-5 favorite started to turn the screw on the front end, the dark bay needed some encouragement from Ahmed Ajtebi, but responded instantly to close the gap in impressive fashion from halfway. Knuckling down for a couple of taps, she reeled in her barnmate in the final stride for a short-head success, with five lengths back to Appointee (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) in third. Trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni's reaction said it all afterwards. "We expected Gamilati to win and thought Discourse would need the run, so she's surprised us," he told the Racing Post. Discourse is a half-sister to GI Blue Grass S. hero Bandini (Fusaichi Pegasus), GISW, $676,380, and was produced by a half-sister to successful sire Stormy Atlantic (Storm Cat). The filly's dam, Divine Dixie, was acquired by Stonerside Stable for $2 million at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton November Sale while carrying a full-sibling to Bandini, and was part of the Sheikh Mohammed's purchase of Stonerside's stock back in 2008. Divine Dixie had a colt by Street Cry (Ire) in 2010 and did not have a foal this spring. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £4,533.
