Racegoers were aware something was afoot ahead of Decathlete's unveiling, and hammered Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's homebred bay down to odds-on favoritism come post time. He gave connections and supporters not a moment's worry and exhibited blistering late dash to win as he liked. Decathlete was well away from the outside box and raced close up stalking the pace through halfway. Providing an ominous presence passing the quarter-mile marker, the 7-10 chalk was nudged to the front with 300 meters remaining and quickened clear in impressive fashion under Maxime Guyon, before gearing down near the line to easily account for Kiram (Fr) (Elusive City) by three lengths. "He's a very easy horse to ride and traveled well throughout the race," commented Guyon. "When I asked him to go he quickened nicely and won very easily." Decathlete's third dam is English and French champion 3-year-old filly Golden Opinion (Slew O' Gold). Lifetime Record: 1 start, 1 win, €12,000.
