Grand Vadla was asked by punters to make this a winning debut as the 7-5 favorite, but only did so after the intervention of the stewards for an early-stretch incident. The Lagardere-bred was positioned third for much of the contest, but felt the brunt of Mednaya (Ire) (Grand Lodge)'s inward maneuver at the top of the straight. Rebalanced when readied for a bid approaching the final eighth, the half to Vadlawys (Fr) (Always Fair), GSW-Fr; Val Royal (Fr) (Royal Academy), GISW-US, MGSW-Fr, $1,126,482, was undone by inexperience and wandered when urged to seize the initiative. Awarded the race after finishing a half-length second--and six lengths clear of the remainder--she was nonetheless full of run at the wire and is sure to reach higher.
