To add further gloss to this weekend’s European scene news that Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) came through her final work prep in advance of Sunday’s G1 Prix Vermeille will delight both her connections and legions of fans. Not seen in competitive action since beating Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB}) in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud June 28, Treve pleased her trainer Criquette Head-Maarek in a workout in Chantilly on Tuesday morning. “This morning she just did a small mile with her lead horse,” explained Head-Maarek. “It was just a pipe-opener for her, nothing more. She was very free in her work when she came back from her break, but this morning she was more relaxed and seems very well.” The decision made by Jeff Smith and David Elsworth to field their Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) against Treve on Sunday means the French filly will have to be at least near the top of her game to maintain her unbeaten run this season in advance of an historic bid for a third victory in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.
