Two Added To Haydock Sprint

Saturday’s G1 Haydock Sprint Cup features two new probable starters after both Roger Varian and Charlie Hills supplemented Belardo (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and Magical Memory (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}) respectively. Belardo, winner of the G1 Dewhurst S. as a juvenile, has failed to match that level so far this year and Varian is hopeful a drop back to six furlongs will spark an improvement in the horse’s form. “On his last two runs over a mile, albeit at the highest level, we’ve felt he just hasn’t got home,” said Varian.”He’s a horse that possesses a lot of natural speed and he has been tending to over-race. Collectively, we feel it is a worth trying him back at six furlongs.”
In contrast Magical Memory is already proven over the trip having bagged two major sprint handicaps this summer and Charlie Hills is keen to let him take his chance against some of the best British and Irish sprinters.”The horse is in good form and as long as the ground isn’t bottomless he will take his chance. It’s very sporting of the owners, but improving horses like him don’t come along very often so they have to be commended for taking the chance,” said the Lambourn trainer. Previous winners of the race G Force (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) and Gordon Lord Byron (Ire) (Byron {GB}) are on target for the contest as are up-and-coming sprinters Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) and Adaay (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}).
