A colt by All American (Aus) led the way during the single-session Book 2 of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale on Wednesday when picked up by Jason Bridgman's Bridgman Racing for A$56,000. Part of the inaugural draft of John Mann's Tosca Farm, lot 447 is the first foal of the winning Redoute's Choice (Aus) mare Statuette (Aus), who descends from a family filled with South American Group 1 winners.
Also generating interest on Wednesday was lot 408, a daughter of Danerich (Aus) bought by Rosemont Stud for A$46,000. The bay is a half to four winners. The third-highest price of the day was the A$40,000 shelled out by Shirley Prosser for lot 349, a son of Written Tycoon (Aus). The grey counts G1 Western Australia Oaks winner India's Dream (Aus) (Western Symphony {Aus}) as his third dam.
The average and median for Book 2 were both up on last year, with the average finishing at A$15,453 (+14.4%) and the median A$12,500 (+25%). The gross, for 21 fewer sold, was A$1,347,000, down from A$1,458,500 a year ago. Buyers proved more selective this year, with the buyback rate at 27% compared to 13% last year.
“There was some great trade done today,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “A number of vendors were delighted with their results–many horses sold above expectation and the demand for quality continued right through the day. Overall the figures are in line with last year, which recorded huge gains right across the board, so it's been a most pleasing sale.”
