The 36th Asian Racing Conference began Sunday in Mumbai, India with a day at the races, and continues through this Thursday, Jan. 28. The TDN will feature full coverage of the event. Monday's schedule includes several closed-bureau meetings, with the first day of open conference meetings beginning Tuesday and running through Thursday.

The ARC is put on by the Asian Racing Federation, a body that includes 21 full members from Asia, Australasia, Arabia and South Africa. The ARF's stated goals include promoting and facilitating the internationalization of racing; quality control of black-type races, carried out through its Asian Pattern Committee; the harmonization of medication and racing rules; and helping develop racing within the ARF member area.

ARF Chairman Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges kicks things off with an introduction before the first panel on Tuesday entitled, “The Wagering Landscape.”

The first ARC was held in Tokyo in 1960 with 69 delegates from 12 racing organizations representing seven countries. Today, there are 800 delegates from more than 30 countries, including many delegates from Europe, North America and South America. This will be the fourth time that India has hosted the ARC, which is held every two years. The last was in 1995. Hong Kong hosted the event in 2014.

There will be four topics addressed each day. They include:
