Clearsky Farm, which bred Arrogate (Unbridled's Song), offers his dam Bubbler (Distorted Humor), as hip 110 during Monday's Fasig-Tipton November sale. The 10-year-old dark bay mare is in foal to Into Mischief.
A day after Arrogate's dramatic victory over California Chrome, Clearsky farm manager Barry Robinette admitted he might not have seen the entire Classic.
“I don't even know if I've seen the end of it or not, I was riding so hard—I had my head down,” Robinette laughed. “But it was a special race–and what a race California Chrome ran.”
Bubbler was purchased by Clearsky founder Eamon Cleary for $170,000 at the 2010 Fasig November sale. The farm is now run by the late Cleary's sons Bernard and Eamonn.
Robinette said the decision to sell the mare was confirmed once Arrogate hit the wire at Santa Anita Saturday.
“We were winging it–it really wasn't definite [we would sell her] until last night,” Robinette said. “We just brought her over this morning.”
Of the decision to sell, he added, “She is probably worth as much as she's ever going to be worth right now. So it was just good timing.”
Arrogate's half-sister by Medaglia d'Oro sold at the Keeneland September sale this year and Clearsky has a Giant's Causeway weanling filly out of the mare. Robinette said plans for the weanling are still undecided.
“She is a really nice mare,” Robinette said of Bubbler. “She is well put together. She is a little bit dominant–she likes to be the first one to the gate and you're not going to take her feed away from her. And she has a great shoulder on her.”
