Shadwell Stable's Mohaymen (Tapit) worked a bullet five furlongs in 1:00.22 (1/16) Sunday morning at Belmont Park in preparation for Saturday's GI Mohegan Sun Metropolitan H.
“Did you see him work? Wow, he worked great,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “That's what we were looking for. He did it well within himself, he worked great and galloped out well, so we're ready.”
The gray colt, who returned from nine months on the sidelines to finish fourth in the May 6 GIII Westchester H., also worked a bullet last week, going four furlongs in company in :47.09 (1/93). He worked by himself Sunday.
“Last week when we had two in front of him, he just got too far back and then he caught up, and it wasn't ideal for him,” McLaughlin explained. “So, I said, 'Let's go back to the basics and just work him on his own.' He's worked three times and he's worked well all three times. He's doing very well, so we'll see.”
Mohaymen opened his career with five straight wins, including victories in the GII Nashua S., GII Remsen S. and GII Lambholm South Holy Bull S., but he is winless in five starts since taking last year's GII Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth S.
