Action continued to be lively at Keeneland April heading into the fourth hour of selling, with hip 135, a chestnut son of Malibu Moon from Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree consignment, going for $575,000. Japan's Northern Farm signed the ticket for the son of the stakes-placed Whirlwind Charlott (Real Quiet), who hails from the family of Behrens (Pleasant Colony). It was the colt's first time under the hammer; he was bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds.
A Medaglia d'Oro half-sister to GI Met Mile hero Divine Park (Chester House) brought $350,000 at Fasig-Tipton's July sale Wednesday. Out of High in the Park (Ascot Knight), the bay was purchased by Deborah Easter on behalf of Mrs. C Wilson McNeely III. She was bred and consigned by Brereton C. Jones.
Hip 157, a half to MGISW Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) and a full to SW Funny Feeling, gave Distorted Humor his second big seller of the night at KEESEP Tuesday. Consigned by Gainesway, agent for breeder Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, the Feb. 14 foal was purchased by B. Wayne Hughes for $900,000. Jess Jackson's Stonestreet operation bought dam Hookedonthefeelin (Citidancer), in foal to Distorted Humor, from the ClassicStar dispersal for $2.9 million at FTKNOV in 2006. The subsequent foal was Funny Feeling, who was a $250,000 KEESEP yearling in 2008.
A Galileo filly from the family of G1 Epsom Derby hero Lammtarra and the top turf mare Bosra Sham took center stage during the early part of day two of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in Newmarket, selling for 900,000gns to John Magnier. The Irish-bred bay is a daughter of Gwynn (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}) and is a 3/4-sister to Gagnoa (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), a dual Group 3 winner in France and Classic-placed in that country's Oaks as well as the G1 Irish Oaks in 2008. Careless Jewel (f, 4, Tapit), runaway winner of the 2009 GI Alabama S., attracted a spirited round of action as she hit the FTKNOV sales ring Sunday night to be sold as a broodmare prospect. Unraced since fading as the favorite in the GI Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic a year ago, the grey was finally knocked down to Southern Equine Stables LLC for $1.95 million. An eyecatching colt from the second crop by War Front (Danzig) brought a final bid of $485,000 to top the early returns at Keeneland April Monday. Consigned by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, the dark bay had been picked up for $60,000 by John Savino at FTKOCT 2010. John Moynihan, bidding on behalf of Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables, signed the ticket. Out of a half-sister to MSW Amarata (Water Bank), the 2-year-old had zipped an eighth in :10 flat at the preview Thursday.
Stonestreet Stables, the leading buyer at KEEAPR just weeks before the passing of Jess Jackson, was in action again at the first yearling sale of the North American season, the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in Lexington Tuesday. Stonestreet and George Bolton were on the ticket for hip 168, a colt by Harlan's Holiday that brought $310,000 to top the returns just past midway of the session. Out of SP Acrosstheborder (Include), the bay had been acquired in utero for $85,000 at KEENOV 2009.
Besilu Stables maestro Ben Leon came out swinging early in the third session of Keeneland's September sale when going to $1.2 million for a filly by Bernardini. Out of Silk 'n Sapphire, Hip 307 is a half-sister to GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf heroine Shared Account (Pleasantly Perfect). The Apr. 16 foal was offered by Catherine Parke's Valkyre Stud.
The demand for Galileo yearling fillies continued Thursday at Tattersalls October when a German-bred daughter of the Coolmore stallion sold for 600,000gns to Badgers Bloodstock. John Magnier was the underbidder. The May foal is a 3/4-sister to MGSW Peace Royale (Ger) (Sholokhov {Ire}). "She is from a really tough German family, is very athletic and has a delightful eye," Charlie Liverton told Racing Post. "She goes into training with John Gosden."
A little more than 48 hours after a solid effort in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs, Dubawi Heights (GB) (f, 4, Dubawi {Ire}) is bound for a career in Japan after being secured by Shadai Farm for $1.6 million at Fasig-Tipton.
