The first horse through the ring, Madcap Escapade (Hennessy) sold for $3.1 million, with John Sikura signing the ticket on behalf of Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock. A Grade I winner on the racetrack and now in foal to A.P. Indy, the bay mare had been owned by Hill 'n' Dale and Southern Equine.
Carribean Sunset (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}--Bonheur, by Royal Academy) realized a $1.25 final bid from Jon Kelly during the second session of the Keeneland November sale. Offered by Paramount Sales, the three-year-old filly is a multiple Group 3 winner in Ireland, and finished third in the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Coronation S.
The unraced mare Reflective (Seeking the Gold) brought a final bid of 550,000gns from bloodstock agent Anthony Stroud at the Tattersalls December Mare sale Tuesday. Out of Korveya (Riverman), the five-year-old mare is a half to Hector Protector and Bosra Sham. She is in foal to Montjeu (Ire).
A colt by Redoute's Choice and out of the MGSW & MG1SP mare La Sizeranne (NZ) (Stravinsky) went to Mr. RA James for NZ$700,000. Consigned by Trelawney Stud Ltd., the bay is the first foal out of La Sizeranne, whose dam Tricia Ann (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) is three-quarters to four stakes winners.
Hip 12, a Ghostzapper colt out of the GISW mare Collect the Cash (Dynaformer), sold for $250,000 to lead the early returns at the Adena Springs Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. The bay was purchased by trainer Mike Maker, who was acting as agent for Thomas Conway. Collect the Cash, the dam of MSP Money My Honey (Red Bullet), is a out of the SW & GSP mare Worldly Possession (Valid Appeal).
Selling early as hip 7, a Pastoral Pursuits (GB) half-brother to G1 Middle Park S. winner Dark Angel (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) topped Wednesday's single-session Doncaster Breeze-Up Sale. M.L. Albasti landed the handsome chestnut for 192,000 pounds, which was the lone price on the afternoon to exceed the six-figure mark. Produced by the Machiavellian mare Midnight Angel (GB), the colt was consigned by Bansha House Stables.
A colt by Rock of Gibraltar (Ire) brought a final bid of 145,000,000 yen ($1,569,931) from Shigeyuki Okada's Big Red Farm to top Monday's opening session of the Japan Racing Horse Association's July Select Sale in Hokkaido. Out of My Katies, the yearling is a half brother to Japanese Horse of the Year Admire Moon (Jpn) (End Sweep). Asked about the sale-topping price, Okada admitted, "It is surprisingly high for me, however, I could not stop myself because this is the lot which I liked the best in today's catalogue."
Lot 61, a Storm Cat colt out of Elbaaha (GB) (Arazi), sold for οΎ€900,000 to John Ferguson Friday at the Arqana August Deauville Sale. A half-brother to ill-fated G1 Dubai World Cup hero Electrocutionist, the chestnut was offered by Haras d'Etreham.
Stakes-placed Always Awesome (Awesome Again--Anzille, by Plugged Nickle), in foal to hot sire Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado {Ire}), went for a cool $1 million at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale Tuesday. Consigned by Adena Springs, the nine-year-old mare was purchased by Charles Fipke. She is a half to G1SW Anzillero (Law Society), and her dam is a half to the incomparable Urban Sea (Miswaki). Always Awesome's first foal, Bear Always (Vindication), was twice a winner at Woodbine this season.
Clear Sailing (Empire Maker), a once-raced three-year-old filly out of a 3/4-sister to GSW & GISP Jump Start (A.P. Indy), was knocked down to Larry Richardson, agent for Louisiana-based Coteau Grove, for $255,000 Tuesday at Keeneland. Consigned by Eaton Sales as agent for the complete dispersal of Overbrook Farm, the bay--third in one start as a two-year-old, but unraced since--was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect, and has been in steady training at Keeneland. MSW & GISP Bon Jovi Girl (Malibu Moon--Chipeta Springs, by Alydar) brought the second-highest price so far at KEEJAN, selling for $950,000 to Denali Stud, bidding on behalf of an undisclosed buyer. Consigned by Gainesway, Agent IX, the four-year-old racing or broodmare prospect is a half-sister to MGISW Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat), who was second in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Classic.
